Eco-Challenge Part 4: The Why of It

Why reduce or reuse the plastic in our lives?

 There are many reasons. Plastic is made to last. It doesn't go away. Much of what we throw away could be used again for good purpose. A lot we could have done without in the first place.

But why be concerned about it? Partly for quality of human life, including our own. Partly for our children's children. Partly because the earth doesn't belong to us, but we are called to take care of it.

Here are some quotes to remind us of the "why" of reducing plastic as a means of safeguarding our natural environment.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I only feel angry when I see waste. When I see people throwing away things we could use.” —Mother Teresa.

“Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children’s children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.” —Theodore Roosevelt

Without the oceans there would be no life on Earth. -Peter Benchley

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” —Jane Goodall

The only way forward, if we are going to improve the quality of the environment, is to get everybody involved.  -Richard Rogers

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it on the seas
    and established it on the waters.

                                   -Psalm 24: 1-2
